"Nairobi — Kenyan school head teachers will be holding their breath when the first whistle is blown to start the World Cup in South Africa mid-next month.

Some fear that it will be the whistle that will start off student unrest as the craze for the sport encroaches upon classrooms across the country.

The tournament has the potential to create confrontations between students insisting on watching the matches and school administrators with an eye on the timetable. Although only a few instances of student unrest have been reported so far this year, the Kenya Secondary School Heads Association, the Kenya National Association of Parents, and a number of regional directors of education describe the craze as a potential springboard for unrest.
